I traveled from Portland to Boston (via Minneapolis) today. It was a wonderfully uneventful trip. I didn't get charged for my second bag (yea!). I listened to Rob Bell at Mars Hill for my "church" - that was inspiring and nourishing. I worshiped - thanks to my IPOD and a great view and I arrived in Boston to meet my friends Martha and Sonja by 7:30 pm (Boston time). I am settled in my "home" away from home - a Residence Inn in Danvers and am trying to get tired enough to go to bed. I am looking forward to these two weeks of class. The women I am with have all grown close and we are excited about catch up on each other's lives. Oh, I forgot hairspray and had to find a mini-mart and get some (found Suave...I don't want to say that I am a hairspray snob, but given the fact that I hold my hair together with it, I am!!) We'll see how it works. How on earth could I have forgotten my hairspray? That's almost like forgetting my Bible...well not quite but almost!! More tomorrow. I'll try for some pictures.
I'm glad you made it safely. I had to laugh when I read about the hairspray. You and Annette both are so particular about your skin care and makeup, but you both also do a lot of public speaking/preaching and meeting with people. Me, not so much. I barely do anything, mostly just drawing on my eyebrows... I guess the Residence Inn's little "shop" doesn't have hairspray...
See you Friday!

Oh. I just thought about the way you "worshiped" during your plane flight. I have a little book I bought years ago called _Practicing the Presence of God_ by Brother Andrew. He was a monk whose primary responsibility was washing the dishes and working the garden. One of his little "prayers" began "Lord of all pots and pans..." and he asked God to bless him and help him be the best dishwasher in the world.
That's about as simple as worship can get! I am reminded of Psalm 100 and the first two verses:
"Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth. Worship the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful songs." It seems that I have been "shouting for joy" since we moved here, but that's easy. The hard part is learning to "shout for joy" when you are in a very hard place and life doesn't seem so good. Rather like the little bird caught in cow's dung who still sang her sweet song.

Hmmm hairspray snob? Never heard that before. I laughed so hard.. Suave is okay. When you have lived on a meager budget, Suave was the answer to every hair product.
I hope Boston is not so hot.. UGh..

I like that you just compared hair spray to your Bible on the importance scale ;) Hah!! Actually, I know what you mean and have necessity items I feel the same way about. I can't believe you forgot it though!! Missed our usual Sunday night routine yesterday!!
